Texas man arrested in East Colorado Springs for child abuse, warrants

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office got a tip from a Texas agency that a man wanted for assault had taken his son from a hospital against medical advice and fled the Lone Star State to hide out in Colorado Springs.

Deputies went to a hotel near Peterson Air Force Base on Space Village Ave. and found Johnathan Samuel Young, 56, with family members and the child.

Young had made statements to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services that he “would not be taken alive” and was considered armed and dangerous, according to the sheriff’s office. Young also had a felony warrant for assault in Texas.

Deputies were able to arrest Young without any issues, and the child was found safe. Other family members were taken to the hospital to be evaluated, according to the sheriff’s office.

Young faces charges of felony fugitive from justice, third-degree assault, harassment, and child abuse. More charges are pending, the sheriff’s office said.
