Stolen vehicle leads police to large ID theft operation in Pueblo
A stolen vehicle uncovered a lot more than just that in Pueblo. Police say it led to more evidence pointing to an alleged counterfeiting and identity theft operation and a suspect arrested as a result.
According to our media partners at The Pueblo Chieftain, an officer located the stolen vehicle Tuesday in the North Elizabeth Street motel parking lot. Upon further investigation, police found 36-year-old Tena Wheeler with tools that appeared to belong to an illegal operation.
They found things such as scanners and printers, counterfeit checks and cash, and checkbooks and IDs which belonged to other people.
The Chieftain reports Wheeler was arrested and charged with aggravated motor vehicle theft, first-degree criminal trespass, and identity theft. Reports also showed Wheeler having a failure to appear warrant.
