Man arrested for shooting near Ray Nixon Power Plant

A verbal argument led to a shooting Friday morning in an area near Interstate 25 south of Fountain, but the victim was able to identify the person who pulled the trigger.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says dispatchers got the call about the shooting shortly before 4:15 a.m. The victim was taken to a hospital and said he was shot by Albert Leckenby, 47. The victim’s condition currently isn’t known.

Deputies went to Leckenby’s house off Piute Road and took him into custody. Deputies also searched the area along I-25 between mile markers 119 and 125 to get more evidence.

Leckenby was arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault.
