Governor-Elect’s first visit to Colorado Springs after big win

Governor-Elect Jared Polis’ first stop in Colorado Springs was with constituents half his size.

Polis toured Colorado’s School for the Deaf and Blind, trying to find out what students with specific demands need exactly.

It’s the first time we’ve seen Polis since winning his new title as Governor over a week ago.

“Tonight we celebrate and tomorrow we roll up our sleeves and get ready to work with Republicans, Democrats, Independents,” said Polis.

He says his first push is education.

“It’s also incredibly important for kids who do have sight and normal hearing, the early education years for [the] foundation of success. Our goal over the next year is to expand kindergarten from half day to full day and free for every family,” Polis said.

Next on the Governor’s list is something that affects everyone in Colorado: healthcare.

“We all know we’re getting ripped off on healthcare costs. There’s no reason Americans should be spending 5 to 8 times as much on prescription drugs,” said Polis. “There’s no good reason that it’s twice the percentage of our GPD as any other industrialized nation.”

But for now and until January, Polis says he’s keeping an eye on classrooms around the state.
