Colorado Springs police believe alcohol could play factor in deadly traffic accident from October

The Colorado Springs Police Department has determined the man that was killed after running a red light and causing an accident in back in October, may have been under the influence.

The crash, which occurred October 27, 2018, at the intersection of South Chelton Road and Airport Road involved a Ford Escort and Chrysler Pacfica.

The driver of the Ford, Mark Melvin, 32, was injured and taken to a nearby hospital where he later died Thursday from his injuries.

Three people were inside the second vehicle involved in the crash where only one person suffered a minor injury.

Police do not believe charges will be placed for the driver of the Chrysler. Melvin’s death marks the 47th traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs for the year of 2018.
