Amber Alert children found near Colorado Springs, mother arrested

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office confirms two Amber Alert children were found safe and unharmed while driving to the Colorado Springs area Monday.

An Amber Alert was issued Sunday, November 4th, for 11-year-old Priscilla Penaloza and one-year-old Alexander Penaloza, who police say was taken by their mother, Diana Moreira during a supervised visit in San Jose, California.

Police say they were last reported driving in a grey 2012 Mini Cooper sedan, headed towards the Colorado Springs area. Around 11:11 a.m. Monday, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that the mother and kids were at the 16,200 block of Mountain Plain Drive.

Both deputies and SWAT members responded to the address and located Moreira and the children. They took Moreira into custody without incident and both children were unharmed.

Moreira was transported and booked into the Criminal Justice Center Jail on an outstanding felony warrant out of California for kidnapping.

The Colorado Springs Sheriff’s Office says they will continue to monitor the case and will be assisting with the San Jose Police Department.
