Woman to lead largest command in US Army for first time

For the first time, a woman is leading the largest command in the U.S. Army.

Lt. Gen. Laura Richardson- is now commanding the Army forces command, which is headquartered at Fort Bragg. She now represents more than 700,000 soldiers.

This isn’t the only first for Richardson. She joined the Army in 1986 and in 2012 she became the first female deputy commanding general for the 1st Cavalry Division, known as “America’s First Team.” And in 2017, she became second in command to General Robert B. Abrams- when she was named the first female deputy commanding general of FORSCOM in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

In her military career, Richardson has served as an Army aviator, a military aide to the vice president and as one of the Army’s liaison officers for the United States Senate.
