Virtual Reality goes beyond video gaming

It’s no secret that Virtual Reality has grown significantly over the last few years. It’s currently being used inside classrooms, doctors offices, and beyond.

Aside from learning techniques, VR is helping in tons of other everyday scenarios and situations which got us thinking what all is Virtual Reality capable of?

After some research, we constructed the list below to illustrate just how advanced this technology is becoming.

Entertainment:

Stepping beyond the video game system, Virtual Reality is used for several other forms of entertainment. Think 3D movies, only better. Certain VR apps can be downloaded to a device to enhance a person’s movie experiences. These apps also allow the user to skip the theater itself, and immerse themselves in the movie from the comfort of their home. This goes for sports fans as well. Virtual Reality offers programs that allow fans to watch the game and feel like they’re at the stadium. And calling all music lovers, what if you could see your favorite artist perform at your favorite venue, without ever having to leave the house. It’s all possible with VR.

Lastly, do you ever dream of going on the perfect vacation, but don’t have the money to afford? What about a virtual trip to Hawaii or Alaska? Certain apps can take you there in just 90 seconds!

Health Care:

The healthcare industry is another department growing substantially from Virtual Reality. Not only can VR give certain institutions computer-generated images for doctors and health care providers to use as diagnosis and treatment, it can also be used as great learning techniques. Virtual models can help even the most experienced surgeons practice difficult procedures on patients before they enter the operating room.

Aside from the surgeons and doctors themselves, VR can also help patients recover from injuries through unique models and rehabilitation tools. Certain programs allow patients to undergo physical therapy to regain motor and cognitive function and in some cases, it’s much faster than going to an actual PT office.

Meditation & Mental Health

Users can use VR to help with mental health. These include conditions like PTSD, anxiety, and panic disorders/phobias. With the help of a VR headset, patients can transport to another world, typically one more relaxing to help with stress reduction. Meditation experiences can provide safe and comforting environments for users to practice slow breathing and more. Research shows these techniques with the combination of medication can be great for war veterans recovering from PTSD.

Courtrooms/Crime scenes

VR can advance things in the courtroom as well. The advanced technology can take authorities to the crime scene and allow reenactments to become more accurate. It’s also been known to help jurors visualize the scene a little better in order to make a conclusion whether the suspect was guilty or not.

Shopping

Aside from video gaming, one of the most common uses for VR is for shopping. With the growing population of people shopping online, certain VR apps can enhance the online shopping experience a bit further. They can give shoppers a virtual tour of the entire store, instead of using the website to sift through clothes, they can actually go to the store and look at different items. The best part, users can also take a friend with them on their virtual reality shopping experience.

Military

Our nation’s military can use virtual reality to better train soldiers before they are deployed. Different VR simulators can place soon-to-be soldiers in virtual experiences to help protect themselves and fellow men/women during dangerous situations. It also teaches them to react quickly and on their feet during these times.
