Don’t procrastinate, this year’s ballot in El Paso County is stacked

It’s that time of year again, time to check your mail and fill in those ballots. This year ‘ s election is so packed, the El Paso county Clerk and Recorder is asking you to get those ballots in as soon as possible.

The 2018 ballot has 62 different issues and races up for vote, and this year, there are nearly 400-thousand active voters who are expected to have their voices heard.

With such a large a ballot, Secretary of State, Wayne Williams … says this year…you need to make sure you do your homework.

Secretary Williams said, “There are 13 statewide issues, there is a county wide issue and then there is some local issues as well. Every single voter has at least 14 ballot issues in addition to candidates and judicial retention.”

KRDO News Channel 13 asked people in Downtown Colorado Springs about the ballot, and they say they haven’t seen anything quite like it.

Mark Elsner said, “It is uncommon to see that many, but a lot of the things that are on the ballot don’t pertain to everybody.” While Brenda Vandersleus, “research all of the issues and make educated votes.”
There are 62 different items to vote on in this year ‘ s ballot compared to just 41 last year. Secretary Williams said even though it’s a large a ballot, each matter is important.

“There are issues that are decided by a single vote, or a tie vote. Actually, in Cripple Creek just last year, one of the races was decided by who drew high card. So your vote might actually make a difference.”
Each ballot will come with two pages. Make sure you turn both of them in. If you are planning on mailing in your ballot, Secretary Williams says it will probably take two stamps.
