Heartwarming viral photo resurfaces showing first responders during natural disasters

In light of ongoing efforts in Flordia after Hurricane Michael, a heartwarming photo of a Fort Lauderdale officer and his K9 is resurfacing after going viral last year.

The photo originally hit the world in September 2017 after Hurricane Irma hit The Sunshine State. The touching photo shows Police Officer Kenneth Somma and his K9, Eddie, linking hand and paw after a long 12-hour shift cleaning with clean up efforts.

The photo was posted with the caption “#WeAreInThisTogether” by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.

Since being posted, the photo inspired many users to send in comments thanking Officer Somma and Eddie for all of their hard work.

Irma made landfall early Sunday, September 10, 2017, as a Category 4 storm causing major damage to the Florida Keys and Miami.

It came almost a year before Hurricane Michael ripped through Mexico Beach in Florida as a Category 4 .

Since Michael’s arrival, the death toll has risen to 19 deaths as of Monday. President Donald Trump also visited some of the devastated cities in Florida and Georgia on Monday.

Over the weekend, the President made a disaster declaration for six Georgia counties. That followed his previous declaration of a major disaster in nine Florida counties.
