SWAT crews called to Vistas at Jackson Creek Apartments, suspect taken into custody
A Monument apartment building was evacuated Wednesday night due to a barricaded subject situation in which the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team got involved.
Authorities were on their way to Vistas at Jackson Creek Apartments to conduct a welfare check on 44-year-old Alvin Robert Gooley Wednesday night. While on the way, someone from inside the residence called 911 and stated that Gooley was acting wildly, punching walls in the residence and racking a shotgun while threatening to kill himself and others.

Upon arrival, officers were contacted by the original caller who was in fear for his life and hid in his bedroom with his young child until he was able to leave.
Authorities set a perimeter around the apartment and the EPCSO SWAT team was called to the scene.
Gooley eventually exited the apartment and was taken into custody by members of the EPCSO SWAT team without incident.
A search warrant was obtained and the residence was searched. During the search, two shotguns were found in the residence, one of which was used during the incident. Both shotguns belonged to Gooley. Further investigation revealed that Gooley had convictions for prior felonies, which make it illegal for him to possess firearms.
Gooley was booked into the Criminal Justice Center. He is charged with menacing, possession of weapons by previous offenders and assault in the third degree.
