Widefield High School student arrested for planning threat to school

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says a student at Widefield High School was arrested Wednesday after planning a threat to the school.

The student hasn’t been identified, but the sheriff’s office says “there is no longer a valid threat to Widefield High School,” according to a news release issued Thursday.

A school resource officer got the tip about the threat, and the sheriff’s office began investigating. They found the student, who has been charged with inciting destruction of life/property, a class-six felony.

No other information was released, but the sheriff’s office made a note of encouraging parents to have conversations with their children about the charges they could face for making a threat toward students, faculty, or the school.
