Colorado Springs police arrest man for robbery in skeleton mask

Colorado Springs police say a man in a “distinct jacket” and a skeleton mask pulled out a rifle and robbed someone in a parking lot of an apartment complex Wednesday afternoon.

Officers got the call about the robbery around 4:23 p.m., and the victim said the suspect demanded money before fleeing northwest from N. Chestnut Street.

Police found video footage of the robbery and noted the distinct jacket the suspect was wearing. The suspect was also seen leaving a motel room, but he wasn’t there when investigators went to check for him.

At that point, other officers got an unrelated call for a burglary of a motor vehicle at a nearby location and detained the suspect about a block away from the original robbery call. An officer noticed the BMV suspect matched the description of the robber and was wearing the same distinct jacket.

The suspect was identified as Dominic Morquecho, but officers didn’t find the rifle at first.

A K-9 officer went back to the robbery scene and started searching nearby. A Century Arms C308 rifle was found in a case, and it was confirmed to be the robbery weapon.

Morquecho faces at least one charge for robbery.
