Colorado Springs police identify victim, arrest 1 in Roundtop shooting

UPDATE: A suspect has been arrested for the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old man last week in northeast Colorado Springs.

The shooting happened before 3:30 a.m. Thursday near Roundtop Dr. and Dublin Boulevard. ( MAP ) Police officers found a man with a gunshot wound in the street.

According to Colorado Springs police, 31-year-old Davin Carrera was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with first-degree murder. His mugshot is expected to be released soon.

The victim was identified as 38-year-old Michael Dewayne Booker, according to a news release by the Colorado Springs Police Department. Police haven’t said what led up to the shooting, and no suspect has been identified at this time.

Police say this is the 19th homicide in the city so far this year. At this time last year, there were 20 homicides in the city.

Colorado Springs Police officers have blocked off parts of Dublin Boulevard in Colorado Springs for a death investigation.

A call came before 3:30 a.m. Thursday, at the 2100 block of Roundtop Dr. When officers arrived they found a man with a gunshot wound in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, police have not identified a person of interest in this shooting, but are treating this shooting as suspicious. The victim’s name has not yet been released.
