Fountain Fort Carson football is bringing people together

Mikeroy Markwei, a massive senior defensive end looks like he was chiseled from stone, and yet when he would up at Fountain Fort Carson in the middle of his junior year, he shrunk, “Yea school, yea I was a really shy dude. I had to make like a mean face so that people wouldn’t mess with me because I didn’t really feel like talking with anybody,” says Markwei.

He sort of cocooned himself away from the outside world, until football broke his shell, “Meeting new people is kind of hard, but when I came to join the team it made it a little bit easier for me,” says Markwei.

Now he’s pretty much a social butterfly, “Like when we go out to places I’m always talking to random people,” says Markwei.

Mikeroy then turned his attention to the football field, “I feel like I really had to prove myself because I don’t think people knew what I was really capable of,” says Markwei.

He was so impressive that head coach Jake Novotny pegged him for the Trojans’ leadership council,

“When players police players you have something special,” says Novotny.

The council is a group of eight players tasked with embodying the leadership qualities Trojan football is built on, “When it comes from a player it means more I think with the other players because coaches are in front of them every day because that’s what they’re supposed to do. When the players take that extra step to make sure something as small as the locker room is cleaned up it brings some pride and helps develop the culture,” says Novotny.

Mikeroy went from man face to head of the class and Fountain Fort Carson is better off for it.
