Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Still Warm With PM Storms – 8/5/18

Today: Partly cloudy and warm this afternoon with high temperatures in the 70s to lower 80s for the mountains, 80s and 90s along the I-25 corridor, and upper 90s to lower 100s for the eastern plains. Spotty thunderstorms will again develop over and near the mountains this afternoon and evening, then drift east over the plains. Most storms today should remain below severe criteria, but there’s a little better chance that the strongest storms over the plains may briefly approach severe criteria with hail to near an inch in diameter and thunderstorm wind gusts to near 60 mph, this looks most likely over northern and eastern parts of our coverage area.

Tonight: Spotty showers and thunderstorms will drift east and end leaving a partly cloudy sky for most areas tonight, but a few areas could wake to some patchy low clouds and/or fog. We expect the air to cool into the 50s and 60s by morning for most areas, although a few locations across the high country will cool into the 40s.

Extended: A cold front will settle over the eastern plains on Monday helping to bring cooler air and an increase in available low level moisture to the area. Thunderstorms will probably become more numerous across the area again late Monday and Monday evening, and it appears there may be some potential for heavy rain and/or severe weather with the strongest storms. Tuesday also looks relatively cool, and while the number of thunderstorms we expect for Tuesday is a bit uncertain, there may again be enough moisture around for some stronger storms. Wednesday and Thursday should be a bit warmer again with thunderstorms becoming less likely for many areas. Friday may be a touch cooler, but right now our thunderstorm chances don’t look very good locally.
