Manitou Ave closed near Ruxton for possible sinkhole

A section of Manitou Ave. in Manitou Springs has been shut down due to a possible sinkhole in the asphalt after a culvert was damaged near Ruxton Ave.

Colorado Department of Transportation crews set up a detour to get west on Manitou Ave. Monday by going up through Ruxton to Waltham Ave.

Originally, the eastbound lane remained open while the westbound lane was closed. Monday evening, both directions were blocked.

CDOT crews are worried that the damage may extend more than 10 feet underneath the street.

There’s no estimated time to reopen the full roundabout.
