GoFundMe set up for injured firefighters who accidentally drove into sinkhole

The Hanover Fire Department has set up a GoFundMe for two firefighters who were injured on the job Tuesday.

The injuries happened while the firefighters, identified as Kenneth Holbert II and John Greene, responded to an accident where flooded roads caused two vehicles to washout. This happened on Old Pueblo Road near Birdsall Road. While on the way to help, the fire truck accidentally drove into a 20-foot sinkhole that was not visible due to the glare on the wet roads.

Holbert was thrown from the truck and broke his pelvis, which will require multiple surgeries. Greene suffered a broken nose, facial fractures and five compression fractures in his spine. Both firefighters will be out of work while healing.

The money raised will help pay for medical expenses not covered by insurance and any other needs while not working. The funds will be split evenly between both men.
