Manitou Springs cleans up after Monday’s torrential storm

The storm hit Manitou Springs hard Monday, leaving debris all over the roads and sidewalks Tuesday morning.

Debris covered Manitou Avenue.

“There’s a lot of debris. Wood, rocks, and mud in the city this morning, so our city streets crews will be out cleaning that all up,” said Dave Hunting with the Manitou Springs Fire Department.

“People were panicking and worrying,” said Dave “Mountain Man” Cutshaw, who lives in Manitou. “I guess they thought the town was going to get swept away, but nah, it was just a little rain.”

For local business owner Rei Figueroa, it was important that the people of Manitou Spring were safe.

“I brought in about 20-plus people,” Rei told us. “That way they could shelter inside.”

Tuesday morning, Manitou Springs is back up and running, people beginning their day cleaning mounds of hail and leaves off the sidewalks.

Most of the mud and debris, including the leftover hail, was swept off to the side of the streets Monday night, so the real effort was ensuring everything that could be removed was, and in a timely manner.
