Woodland Park residents warned for 1 marijuana plant over limit

Woodland Park police and the Teller County Sheriff’s Office have raided several marijuana grow operations linked to illegal distributions this year, but one raid Wednesday turned into a learning experience.

Police had a warrant to search a residence on Fairview Street due to an alleged illegal marijuana grow. But according to a Facebook post from the Woodland Park Police Department, there was no evidence of illegal distribution, and the residents were growing 13 plants — just one plant over the legal limit.

Instead of charging them for the single plant, officers chose to educate the residents on the state’s marijuana laws and recent changes to plant count limits.

Despite the conclusion, WPPD thanked the public for reporting suspicious activities or odors in their neighborhoods. The department also thanked the residents for cooperating during the search.
