Flash flooding hits parts of Southern Colorado

According to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Highway 96 between Wetmore and Westcliffe is closed due to flooding.

Flood water washed cars off the road and washed out the highway Sunday night.

So far, no injuries have been reported.

An alternate route around the closure is Highway 69 through Texas Creek.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office also says Hardscrabble Creek is flooding. There are reports the water wall is 20 feet wide and moving through Wetmore.

According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, Highway 165 is also closed.
