Quarry Fire in Fremont County now 90% contained, caused by lightning

Two fires broke out in Fremont County Saturday evening.

According to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, one fire is behind the quarry near Fremont Peak near MM 275. It’s being called the Quarry Fire. It’s burning more than 10 acres. The Eastridge Campground off County Road 3 has been evacuated as a precaution. As of Sunday afternoon, the Quarry Fire was 90 percent contained, 8 1/2 acres and was caused by lightning.

The other fire is being called the Twin Fire. It’s off Fremont County Road 3A near the old Buckskin Joe’s. That fire is currently 1/10 of an acre. Officials tell us the fire is completely extinguished.

The sheriff’s office confirms that two people were struck by lightning in the same area. They both survived and declined medical attention at the scene.
