Hundreds of homes tarped after hail storm in Fountain, Security-Widefield
Hundreds of homeowners are still dealing with the damage left behind after a massive hail storm Wednesday morning.
Starting Thursday morning, homeowners started putting tarps all along their roofs. The hail was so big in size and came down so quickly, it left residents with holes and water leaks.
Lori Durocher, a Fountain resident said she’s in the process of getting her entire roof replaced. “It hasn’t been official that it’s lost but they pretty much are going to replace it. There’s a lot of holes,” she said.”
It’s not always easy to see the holes from the ground, but roofing companies say to look for lots of black spots. That’s an indicator that hail left damage behind.
Durocher’s neighbor, Andrew Conant was lucky enough to catch water leaks before they did any real damage. He said, “we had a chance to get to come buckets before we got too much on the floor.”
The company doing work on Conant’s home, Southwest Windows & More were putting a tarp over his entire roof. President, Russell Nielsen who was on site with his crew said, “these hailstones were large enough to penetrate through the shingle and the wood decking, so water is able to get into the home.”
Roofing companies say another easy way to tell your roof might need to be looked at, is if it’s missing shingles after a storm.
