High fire danger – 06/14/18

Today: A Wind Alert Level One is in effect this afternoon and early evening. Red Flag Warnings continue for the I-25 corridor and mountains until 8 p.m. Avoid outdoor burning! We’ll have partly sunny skies today with hot temperatures. Highs will reach the 90s and low 100s. We’ll come close to matching or exceeding records for today! We’ll have drier air, and that will help to contribute to our higher temperatures. Southern Colorado will see partly sunny skies today. Later this afternoon and evening, we have a small chance for a few storms. Unless something crazy happens, we’re not expecting severe storms with large hail or damaging gusts. Dry lightning will be the biggest risk with storms as they could start fires.

Tonight: Storms are expected to wind down. Lows drop to the 50s and 60s under mostly cloudy skies.

Extended: Temperatures stay hot on Friday. Starting tomorrow and into the middle of next week, we have chances for a wetter and more active trend. With storms that develop this weekend, there could be gusts to 45 mph, small hail and pockets of heavy rain. Make sure to have a Plan B to celebrate dad indoors on Father’s Day in case you get caught in the rain. Temperatures will drop noticeably Sunday and into next week.
