Man wanted for brutal killing of Utah teen caught in southern Colorado
A 24-year-old man who fled Utah after a 15-year-old girl was found brutally killed in her home has been caught in southern Colorado.
Shaun French was wanted by Salt Lake City police in connection with the killing of Baleigh Bagshaw, and according to the Otero County Sheriff’s Office, he was stopped by a Colorado State Patrol trooper on Highway 50 just northwest of Rocky Ford. He was taken into custody on sexual assault charges out of Utah.
According to Salt Lake City police, Bagshaw was found dead in her house on Monday.
Police also said the girl’s mother was on the phone with her when she was “brutally attacked” after arriving home from school. The call was then lost, and police found Bagshaw’s body hours later.
Police said French previously had a sexual relationship with Bagshaw and was considered a person of interest in the killing. SLCPD said Wednesday that he’s now a suspect in the homicide.
The Otero County Sheriff’s Office thanked CSP and the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office for help with arresting French. No extradition plans have been announced.
