Victims identified in Colorado Springs weekend homicides

Colorado Springs police identified the man and woman found shot to death inside a car on Bergamo Way near Lower Gold Camp Road Saturday and the woman shot dead Sunday near Airport Road.

Police say 21-year-old Serena Lee Garcia of Parker and 20-year-old Marcus Howard Denton of Colorado Springs were killed Saturday. Their deaths are the eighth and ninth homicides in the Springs this year, and the shootings came in the middle of an especially violent weekend for the city.

A 19-year-old man, Nashid Rayon Rivers, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder for those killings.

Police said officers were called for a disturbance around noon Saturday near 4800 Pacer Lane, and when they interviewed witnesses, they learned about a possible double shooting on the west side of the city. Officers searched a large area in the foothills but it wasn’t until a call for a suspicious vehicle came in at 9:20 p.m. that they found the car on Bergamo Way.

On Sunday, 21-year-old Brandie Preciado of Colorado Springs was found fatally shot near a mobile home park at 5100 Airport Road. Her death was the 10th homicide in the city this year.

Little details are known about what led to Preciado’s death, but a 34-year-old man was identified as a suspect. William Camacho, Jr., was charged with first-degree murder for that killing.

We’re working on gathering more details about the shootings.
