Westcliffe man dead after being ejected from car during crash

A man from Westcliffe is dead after he was thrown from his car during a rollover wreck that happened early Wednesday just south of the town.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, 26-year-old Peter Kober was found at the scene of a single-car wreck about four miles south of Westcliffe around 7:30 a.m.

It’s not clear when the crash actually happened, but police said Kober was driving his Ford Focus south on Highway 69 when he went off the road at a curve. His car then rolled down an embankment, collided with a fence, and then became airborne before rolling four times.

Kober was ejected during the crash, Colorado State Patrol said. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation, but CSP said alcohol and excessive speed are being considered factors in the crash.
