Strong winds with high fire danger – 04/17/18
Today: We’re tracking extreme fire danger today. Red Flag Warnings run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for much of southern Colorado. Use caution and avoid outdoor burning! Don’t throw cigarette butts. Gusts will be incredibly powerful, possibly reaching the 50 and 60 mph range! We can’t rule out some minor tree and property damage. Additionally, cross winds will be strong. Gusts will be out of the southwest in the morning and west-northwest in the afternoon. Because of these winds, the National Weather Service has also issued High Wind Warnings from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. We also have Dust Storm Warnings until 3 p.m. for some areas due to reduced visibility levels. Stay weather aware! Today, temperatures will reach the 60s and 70s.
Tonight: Lows drop to the teens and 20s under mostly clear skies. We’ll be dry overnight. Winds should settle down relatively.
Extended: Lots of sunshine is expected into the day Wednesday. Tomorrow, we’ll be between storm systems so winds and the weather should be quiet and mild. Thursday, ahead of our next area of low pressure, winds will gust again to the 30 and 40 mph range, elevating fire danger. For this reason, we have a wind alert in effect Thursday. Friday into Saturday, we’re expecting very active weather with areas of heavy rain/snow and other areas of moderate-to-heavy rain with some thunder. Stick with us for the latest!
