Fire weather ahead – 4/15/18

TONIGHT: Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy tonight and lows will drop into the 30s. 20s will be felt up in the high country.

EXTENDED: We will see a mix of clouds and sun on Monday with wind gusts into the 30s at times. Because of this a wind alert level 1 is in place. Relative humidity values will be low and the fuels are dry, so the NWS has issued Red Flag Warnings for I-25 and the Raton Mesa from 11am until 8pm. The fire danger threat becomes extreme on Tuesday as winds could gust into the 60s. All of Southern Colorado will be under Red Flag Warnings from 10am until 8pm. This increase in winds and warmth is out ahead of a cold front which brings a quick shot of snow to the Continental Divide. We will be cooler behind this front on Wednesday before warming again on Thursday. An area of low pressure moves in by Friday which brings wind, rain and snow through Saturday morning. Stay tuned for the latest as the forecast develops through the week.
