Weather Alert Day 4-12-18

TONIGHT: Winds remain breezy as cold air pushes in overnight. This will bring northerly winds and some scattered showers to parts of Southern Colorado. Rain mixing with snow is likely with some accumulations possible mainly on grassy areas. The Palmer Divide and Raton Ridge will have better chances at accumulation due to strong northerly winds drying out most other areas. Some showers could still be in the area during the morning commute.

TOMORROW: A Weather Alert Day continues for scattered rain and snow showers, a big drop in temperatures and continued high winds. A High Wind Warning will begin at 9 AM and last through Saturday. Northerly winds will gust around 50-65 mph causing dangerous conditions for high profile vehicles on east to west oriented roads. Temps will only warm to the 30s and 40s, with some 50s making temps 30-40 degrees colder than today. Plus, there will be a wind chill factor too with strong north winds. Another round of showers returns for the evening with blowing snow possible. Once again, accumulations on grassy areas look possible for the Palmer Divide and Raton Ridge.

EXTENDED: Heading into Saturday we are tracking more strong winds, to Level 2 strength so gusts in excess of 50 mph. Temps will still be cool, but warmer than Friday. Drier air moves in so some areas may experience more high fire danger. By Sunday, the winds finally relax. We do see a warming trend into next week and unfortunately that will come with more wind and fire danger. We will track it all!
