Police chase leads to 1 caught, 1 at large by Colorado Springs Airport

Police are engaged in a manhunt near the Colorado Springs Airport at South Powers Blvd. and Zeppelin in Colorado Springs as of 10:33 AM Friday morning.

One suspect has been captured and taken into custody, but police believe another suspect is still on the run. Police say gunfire was exchanged between the suspects and officers prior to the man’s capture, at about 9:30 AM.

Police said the suspects were involved in a home invasion near the 400 block of N. Weber Street. (MAP)

The man wanted by police and the man arrested are believed by police to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident near the Homewood Suites Hilton in that area.

The second suspect was still on the loose as of 12:50 p.m. He was described as a white male wearing black clothing. However, after police obtained dash cam video of the hit and run crash, it showed only one person leaving the stolen vehicle. At this time police are trying to figure out if there was another suspect.

It’s not yet clear how many shots were fired between the suspects and officers, Lt. Howard Black with CSPD said in a news conference shortly before 1 p.m.

Nobody was reported injured during the pursuit. The homeowner suffered minor injuries during the home invasion.

Police said that the airport is still operational and that no passengers or planes were affected.

This is an ongoing investigation and KRDO NewsChannel 13 has a crew on the scene gathering more information.
