2 kids injured during home invasion in southeast Colorado Springs

Two children were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being assaulted by suspects in a home invasion Wednesday night in east Colorado Springs.

Police say it happened near Wyatt Street and Monica Drive around 5 p.m. ( MAP ) That’s where the suspect entered a home and assaulted the two juveniles in the process. It’s not clear if this was a burglary attempt.

The suspects then fired shots at a neighbor before fleeing, according to police at the scene. Nobody was hit by the bullets, but there was damage to nearby buildings.

A description of the suspects or the suspects’ vehicle wasn’t available.

Several blocks on Monica Drive were blocked off as police continued to investigate.

The children were taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
