Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Still Some Fire Weather Concerns – 3/24/18

Today: Mostly sunny and breezy to windy at times this afternoon. Not quite as warm as yesterday, but we’ll still have temperatures in the 60s to lower 70s for the plains today, mainly 40s and 50s over the mountains. Although we won’t be as windy as we were yesterday, we still expect wind speeds of 15 to 25 mph with some stronger gusts at times this afternoon. This will again lead to conditions becoming favorable for the spread of wildfires for parts of eastern Colorado, mainly along the I-25 corridor from Colorado Springs to Trinidad.

Tonight: Mostly clear with decreasing wind. Low temperatures will fall into the 30s for the plains, 20s over the mountains.

Extended: Sunday should be breezy and warm with high temperatures in the 60s and 70s again for the plains, 40s and 50s over the mountains. Monday will be cooler, but for much of the day probably dry. Temperatures will reach the 50s to near 60 for the plains, mainly 40s over the mountains, but the air should start to cool from north to south late in the day. Scattered rain and snow showers should develop over and near the mountains late Monday, and by Monday night a widespread area of precipitation looks to slide south across the area. What will start as a mixture of rain and snow will likely changeover to all snow along and west of I-25 Monday night, and areas of heavy snow appear possible Monday night. After a brief break from precipitation, a weaker system may bring scattered rain and snow showers back to parts of the area late Wednesday through early Thursday. Friday looks dry & cool. The following weekend looks windy and much warmer with fire weather likely becoming a concern again.
