Fountain police investigating a body found in a home on Cherry Circle

The Fountain Police Department is investigating after a body was found inside a home on the West side of the city.

Police responded to the home in the 100 block of Cherry Circle just before 10:30 Monday night for reports of a shooting.

When police arrived, they found the body of Michael Porter, 53, of Fountain inside. Police say Porter had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect in the shooting has been identified as Porter’s son, David Porter, 27, also of Fountain. David lived in the home with Michael and it’s believed the shooting occurred during a family disturbance.

David Porter:

“There was a lot of commotion constantly, I know him and his dad fought a lot,” said Felisha Johnson, a neighbor living across the street.

According to scanner traffic, Porter’s son David told the dispatcher he shot his dad because he was choking his mom.

“I’m pretty shocked, you know it’s a quiet neighborhood, you don’t hear about stuff like this too often,” said Ryan Mangram, another neighbor living across the street.

David Porter was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. He’s currently being held at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center without bond.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Fountain Police Department at 719-382-8555. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 719 634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
