Pueblo native beats Guinness record for push-ups in an hour

While many of us might struggle to put up a couple hundred push-ups during a workout, one Pueblo man broke a world record by completing thousands of them in 60 minutes.

Frank Sagona, 39, returned to his alma mater, South High School, on Friday to attempt a Guinness World Record as spectators looked on in anticipation, our partners at the Pueblo Chieftain reported.

Sagona needed to beat 2,682 push-ups in one hour, the record set last year by Carlton Williams of England.

He eclipsed that total and completed an even 2,900 push-ups in 60 minutes. That works out to a push-up every 1.2 seconds for an hour straight. (Sagona’s pace was actually faster than that, but he took several short breaks to rest during the 60 minutes.)

The school also turned the event into a bit of a spectacle, packing the auditorium with raucous supporters and letting students from the video communications program document the record attempt.

Sagona was a standout wrestler while at South, according to the Chieftain , and he also holds world records for chin-ups.
