A woman was shot in the face late Sunday night and is recovering in the ICU. Janell Kilgore, 49, was in her car in the 500 block of Iowa Avenue, near East Platte Avenue when she was shot.

“It’s so bad, so bad,” said Bill Bell, Kilgore’s stepfather. “She was just coming back from work.”

Bell said Kilgore was shot inside her car.

“She just honked the horn because she couldn’t get out of the car,” he said.

Investigators confirm Kilgore was lying face down on the gravel when they arrived on scene.

It’s unclear if this was a domestic violence situation or an accidental shooting.

Kilgore is recovering in stable but guarded condition. No one is currently in custody.
