Indonesian volcano erupts, shoots out large column of ash

A volcano in Indonesia that’s recently been active after being dormant for centuries erupted Monday and sent huge clouds of ash into the sky.

Villages in the Karo region of Indonesia’s Sumatra island are covered in layers of ash and residents are wearing masks after Mount Sinabung’s eruption.

The eruption has forced a code red warning to airlines by an Australian agency.

It’s not yet known if anybody was injured by the effects of the eruption.

Mount Sinaburg has been active since 2010 and is one of three active volcanoes in Indonesia.
