Neighbors say homes shook after Colorado Springs explosion

Almost everyone living in the hillside neighborhood east of downtown Colorado Springs had the same experience F riday night. “We were just sitting there and watching a movie and we just heard like, we felt it, like it was like a vibration,” said Damian Woods, who lives in that neighborhood. Around 10 p.m. F riday there were multiple explosions at a house on East Vermijo Avenue. Fire crew and people from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms were still on scene S aturday morning piecing together exactly what happened. Tia Nielsen lives on Vermijo and was out walking her dog and looking at the damage. “My first initial thought was like, oh my gosh, is that a bomb? What is that?,” Nielsen said.

There is damageto the house, including broken windows. One person was inside when it happened and he was transported to the hospital. Brittany Alaniz lives just a few doors down from the house and says she was ready to evacuate. “We thought maybe it might have been like a gas line or something, you know what i’m saying, something that we would really need to get out of the neighborhood,” Alaniz said. Someone with knowledge of the investigation told us they found some suspicious devices inside the home, but right now it is unclear if those caused the explosion.
