House declared unlivable after late night fire

A home in Fountain was declared unlivable after a fire broke out around 11 p.m. Wednesday, according to firefighters.

Two people were living at the home in the 500 block of North Main Street, but only one of them was home when the fire began. She told firefighters she was alerted to the danger by her dog, who escaped to the basement while she ran outside to call police. The dog was later found in the basement and was not hurt.

The fire began in one of the bedrooms, which was destroyed by the flames. Several of windows were also burned out, according to fire crews.

The cause of the fire may have been an electrical problem, according to the preliminary results of the investigation.
