Crews stop grass fire in Elbert County

Crews have stopped the advance of a grass fire in Elbert County that had put residents on notice to be ready to evacuate.

The Bradberry Fire grew to about 300 acres on Monday in warm, dry weather continues that has raised the fire danger in eastern Colorado.

The Elizabeth Fire Protection District said one structure was threatened at one point by the fire in Deer Trail.

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office says road and bridge crews helped fire crews by using their trucks to cut fire lines to keep the fire from spreading.

Deer Trail is located off of I-70 about 100 miles northeast of Colorado Springs.
