Springs man accused in illegal marijuana grows here, painkiller heist in Georgia

The Colorado Springs Police Department says a man who moved to the city to grow marijuana illegally is facing multiple charges.

The Colorado Springs Metro Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence Division conducted three raids Thursday. Two of the raids happened in the city and one happened in unincorporated El Paso County.

Police say that 537 marijuana plants, three firearms and an unknown amount of money were seized during the raids.

Police say that during the execution of the search warrants, The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested Felipe Hurtado Cruz on six outstanding warrants. The GBI says Cruz was involved in a criminal organization that stole 8.9 million Hydrocodone tablets from a shipment in Georgia in 2014.

Police say Cruz later moved to Colorado Springs and began to grow marijuana under the pretext of being a medical marijuana grower.
