Companies competing to fix hail damage

Severe weather season is far from over, and for those who have already taken a beating, the end can’t come soon enough.

Signs are flooding neighborhoods in eastern Colorado Springs, all advertising roofing and contracting services, but it doesn’t stop there.

“I’ve had 28 calls in less than a weekend,” Denise DeCosta said.

Calls from roofers and contractors all looking to fix damage caused by the massive hail storm two weeks ago.

“Our roof was completely totaled, even though it was fairly new,” DeCosta said.

Even though DeCosta’s home phone number is on the National Do Not Call List, calls from contractors keep pouring in.

“They don’t come up as a roofing company, they come up as somebody’s personal name,” DeCosta said. “That looks like a private call.”

DeCosta also says telling the companies she’s on the Do Not Call registry doesn’t stop them.

“People that are just annoyed that they’re calling them on what they’re doing,” DeCosta said.

But the problem doesn’t stop at phone calls, as companies going door-to-door in neighborhoods are knocking and ringing door bells. It’s pushing some people to post signs over their doorbells expressively telling them not to.

“I know some of my neighbors have no soliciting signs and for the most part those are honored,” neighbor Tim Officer said.

Officer has had multiple companies come to his door.

“They’ve been fairly cordial, not pushy, just want an opportunity to do business,” Officer said.

But DeCosta says, it’s not always that way on her end.

“I’ll see the same numbers come up multiple times,” DeCosta said.

As more hail and more repairs are expected in this neighborhood, DeCosta is simply looking for one thing.

“I just want the calls to stop,” DeCosta said.

For those looking to hire contractors to fix hail damage, experts say to find someone who is licensed, registered and insured. Experts also say, it’s best to get multiple bids to compare prices, and always insist on a contract.
