Colo. family’s death sparks installation of safety signals

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission has approved the installation of safety signals at a Las Animas County railroad crossing.

This comes just two months after five family members were killed in an Amtrak train-vehicle collision.

Steve and Christina Miller, along with their three young daughters, died in the crash and 4-year-old Heidi survived.

The PUC says it will take three to six months to install the safety signals at the intersection of County Road 32 and the train track.
