Long-time resident at Pueblo Zoo has important message

The Pueblo Zoo’s oldest resident is sending out an important message about conservation.

Zookeepers say Keesha the Golden Eagle came to the zoo 36 years ago, as a rescue.

They’re not exactly sure of the eagle’s age, but they told KRDO that he has been at the facility longer than any other animal.

“He is an advocate for conservation. He was an injured bird when he came here… He had to go through rehab, but he cannot fly. He has found a fantastic home here. He would not be able to survive on his own,” said Laura Pilarski, Pueblo Zoo area supervisor.

Pilarski added that as long as he lives at the zoo, employees plan to use him as a way to raise awareness about rehabbed birds.
