Construction designed to ease water worries
james jarman. first tonight, efforts are underway in security to ease the water worries. the water district says it’s taking steps to make sure the water is clean.. and students are safe. krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller is live at pinello elementary. greg, that spot right now is a construction sight. it’s called an easement project, crews are digging new routes to allow ground water into the water supply. at first, it’s intended to dilute the water until demand goes down… then the schools in the area will solely use groundwater. while it’s alleviating some concerns, people here say the scare has changed how they live. nats – look at all of these water bottles very few people go anywhere without filtered water… sot: it’s really scary. including a short trip to the park. we didn’t before have to worry about filtering water, the sink and the shower. i’ve always had a garden, now i don’t feel safe. safety is at the forefronts of parents’ minds as their students head back to school. at pinello elementary – buses aren’t moving yet… but construction equipment is. sot: what we’ve been doing is working with the water districts district three administrators say the water district approached them about changing the water supply. standup: the idea behind this construction, is that the water would come from ground sources… instead of those contaminated wells. briggs: it would blend the current groundwater with water from the southern delivery system. while pfc’s aren’t considered toxic by the epa… the district certainly didn’t reject the offer… hoping it puts minds at ease… before the first bell rings. the school district sent a letter home with parents in this area telling them about the efforts to dilute the contaminated water. the water district says the other schools don’t use water from the contaminated well. live in security, gm, nc 13.
