Following email leak, Sanders to address convention

Just days after leaked emails suggested favoritism toward his opponent by Democratic Party leadership, Bernie Sanders will speak at the DNC in Philadelphia.

Sunday morning on ABC’s “This Week”, Sanders called for the resignation of Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz.

Hours later, she agreed to step down immediately after the convention ends.

Sanders said he was disappointed but not shocked to find out about the emails released by Wikileaks on Saturday that show was appeared to be comments intended to sabotage aspects of his campaign.

One Colorado Democrat told KRDO Newschannel 13 that Sanders would speak to delegates Monday afternoon, although it wasn’t clear what he would tell them, or what he would say at the podium Monday evening.

Colorado Democratic Party Chairman Rick Palacio told KRDO Newschannel 13 that although he doesn’t think the emails will have a huge impact at the convention, he does agree that the role of superdelegates needs to be re-examined.

He says superdelegates have been a part of the process for 30 years, and times have changed.

Sanders has long claimed that superdelegates are part of the reason he fell short of the number of overall delegates needed for the nomination.
