Hundreds gathered to remember Harry Hoth

The community remembered a broadcasting pioneer, philanthropist and former Colorado Springs mayor on Monday.

Hundreds of family, friends and community members packed the “Shrine of Remembrance” Chapel on July 18 for the memorial service of Harry Hoth.

The marines sent Hoth to Colorado College for officer training in the 1940s where he met his wife, Joan, and started a family.

He started as an employee for KRDO-AM Radio and then eventually became president and owner of Pikes Peak Broadcasting.

He was a strong supporter of the military and was a promoter of local sports. Hot spearheaded many community projects, making sure Colorado Springs had plenty of water in the 1960s for future growth and creating The Broadmoor World Arena.

Harry Hoth died July 12 at 92 years old.
