Police: manual transmission foils would-be truck thief

Colorado Springs Police say a man tried to steal a truck that he didn’t know how to drive.

The attempted carjacking happened in the 1700 block of W. Boulder Street, on the west side, just before 7 a.m. on July 6, 2016.

The victim told police that a man walked up to him with a gun and tried to steal his truck. The suspect, identified by police as Andrew Lazcano, 35, was unable to steal the truck because he doesn’t know how to drive a manual transmission.

Police say Lazcano then ran to a shopping center near W. Uintah Street and N. 19th Street where he was arrested. They say Lazcano had a loaded gun on him, and that officers used a stun gun on him during the arrest.
