Man found beaten to death at Colorado Springs motel identified

Colorado Springs police said a man found assaulted at a motel Friday morning later died from his injuries.

The man has been identified as Sergio Bugueb Maquiavelli, 57. The coroner has not yet ruled on his cause of death.

Officers said they arrived at the Capri Motel, near the intersection of Platte Avenue and Circle Drive, just before 11:30 a.m. Friday after someone at the motel called 911 and hung up.

Witnesses said the man was found in an upstairs room and that police were also checking a second room on the ground floor.

Paul Strunk said he was in a room under where the man was found.

“I was awakened by a loud noise around 4 a.m.,” he said. “It sounded like a heavy microwave or refrigerator. Lasted maybe 3 or 4 seconds. I didn’t hear anything after that. It was completely quiet after that, no one coming or going, and I didn’t really think much of it.”

A man who declined to be interviewed said he saw a woman enter the man’s room Thursday, leave and return a short time later.

The police department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the case.

Normalee Negron, 24, is a person of interest in the case and has several outstanding warrants, police said.
