Zoo keepers taking extra measures to keep animals cool
We have things we do to cool in the high temperatures, but what about our animal friends at the zoo?
Animals overheat just like we do, so employees at the Cheyenne Zoo are doing what they can to make sure they are comfortable.
Zoo keepers make sure their animals get the water and shade they need to keep cool. And on hot days, keeping the animals comfortable takes priority.
“So we do have temperature guidelines we follow that’s part of our protocol. Usually, when it’s a really warm day, 90 degrees, we’ll give inside access to the animals,” said Michelle Salido.
Zoo keepers in Pueblo are also on heat watch.
